Apple is notorious for maintaining tight control over its hardware, and that approach doesn’t stop when you purchase an iPhone and take it home. Apple will issue iPhone warning messages when it believes the device is no longer performing as it should, or has been repaired with non-Apple parts.
Battery Warnings
A common alert is the iPhone battery warning message, which is sent when the phone’s battery degrades to under 80% of its original capacity. (Note: You’ll see this only if you have an iPhone 11 or newer model.)
In an “important battery message,” Apple will instruct you to service or replace the battery. If you replace the battery with a non-Apple (non-OEM) battery, you may see a second iPhone battery warning message saying that Apple cannot confirm the battery is genuine. This message can be ignored—a non-OEM battery works just fine, despite Apple’s protestations. The only way this message can be permanently dismissed is to use an Apple battery.
Display Warnings
Similarly, if you have to replace an iPhone display and don’t use an OEM (Apple) screen, you may receive a “genuine display message” on the iPhone, indicating that the screen is not genuine. Nonetheless, the screen should perform just fine. Like with battery replacement, the only solution to avoid seeing this important display message is to use OEM parts.
Repair or Replace?
Despite these potentially annoying iPhone warning messages, the devices will work just fine with non-Apple parts.
